How to use an official source

  1. Authority: is this the body responsible for the issue?
  2. Scope: does it cover your visa subclass, state, course or type of arrangement?
  3. Timing: is the rule current, historical or an announcement about the future?

Read the source before applying or paying. If a news item and a general guide appear to disagree, look for the instructions that apply to your circumstances and save the relevant link, date and requirement.

Found a broken link or something unclear? Email hello@cafconnectaustralia.com with the page and section, without attaching personal documents. CAF provides educational information; individual cases may require an authorised professional.

Organise documents by task

Keep separate private folders for visas, work, housing, study and insurance. Note what you submitted, when, through which channel and what comes next. Saving a draft, lodging an application and receiving a decision are different stages.

Keep passports, bank details and medical documents out of public groups. To organise your arrival, see first days in Australia; for a practical explanation, choose the relevant topic guide (in Spanish).

Using ImmiAccount: where to find each task

Sign in through Official ImmiAccount and select the correct application. Available options depend on its type and status. If an option is missing, follow the official alternative for that task.

Your taskWhere to start
Read a letter or request for informationExpand the application with +, then select View details > Messages. Also check Actions required.
Attach supporting documentsView details > Attach documents > select the person and document type > Browse > Attach. Check that it shows Received.
Update your passport detailsUpdate details > Change of passport details > select the applicant, enter the details and reason > Submit.
Correct an answer in your applicationUpdate details > Notification of incorrect answer(s) > Add > enter the correction > Confirm.
Notify a later change in circumstancesUpdate details > Notification of changes in circumstances > Add > enter the change > Confirm. Attach supporting evidence where required.

Selecting a file is not enough: check that it has been attached and shows as received. Keep a private copy and check whether the letter asks for another confirmation. Finalised applications do not accept new documents through the usual Attach documents option.

Before submitting an application for the first time, check which documents are required at that stage. The 30-day storage period for documents in an unsubmitted draft is not a general deadline for completing a visa application after lodgement.

Official sources: managing an application after lodgement, attaching documents and updating passport details.

For help with a particular situation, read lost passports, pending PDFs, the 30-day rule and 462 application errors (in Spanish). If you are considering withdrawing a second application lodged outside Australia, first read about the withdrawal and refund process (in Spanish).

Keep passports, application references and medical documents private. CAF Connect provides educational information; Home Affairs handles decisions and official application processes.
